Had dinner here last night. Ribs, fried green tomatoes and a cucumber salad. The food was great, service was great. Will be back again for the breakfast.

There are a lot of meat & there's near the airport, but I've gotta say~ Oakwood cafe is probably the best choice. The good is fresh and yummy. Can't wait to go back to try their chicken and dumplings. Pork chops = they give you 2 fried pork chops! The 2nd one was a surprise for me :) Squash casserole = yummy! Corn bread = not too dry. Not too sweet~ perfect. One warning, the sweet tea is REALLY sweet. I usually end up getting half & half tea to tone it down.
On days when I know I'll be at the State Farmer's Market (which is also awesome) I purposely don't eat breakfast because I know I can stop in here for an awesome meal. The staff have been super friendly and helpful when ordering. They give good insight to that days food and my drink is always full. My meal has always come out fast and hot. But the best part? It's delicious, every time. The biscuits are fresh and hot, the friend pork chop is HUGE. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. If I lived or worked closer I'd probably eat here once a week. Oh, and take a second to check out the interior design and building architecture. It's classic!

I absolutely enjoyed the food here. The staff was super friendly. The location was in an unusual, and hard to find shop. Its located near the farmers market. I definitely recommend trying this spot. I had the chicken salad sandwich on croissant, which was delicious. I only wish I had ventured out more and order something else. Never the less I shall return

Great food! Awesome prices. The food was very flavorful and the service was excellent. I wish they were open layer. I'm not from Atlanta but any time I come back I will be visiting this place

Great meat & 2 place. I highly recommend their chicken tenders - these are extremely succulent pieces of meat, and not the sort of thing you find on a kids menu. Rolls on the table, southern-fried everything, just about the epitome of Southern food for me.

I don't know if we'll ever be able to come for breakfast but this place really wowed us taking into account the sketchy location and early early hours. We got lost because we followed the Apple GPS and it brought us straight across to the other side of the parking lot and the flower brokers. If you find yourself driving between the big delivery trucks, you've gone too far. We were thrilled to see they were open at 6:00 and surprised they have a booming takeout business. There were already a few tables filled with business men and the smell of coffee hung low in the air-always a welcoming sign of a good breakfast to come. Our server was also the host-a tall man with short black hair and not one desire to pour the requisite syrupy schmooze at most chains. We had had a bad morning so we didn't dispense much with inane chit chat and ordered two omelets and a order of chicken tenders for the dog who couldn't be with us on the long trip back home. Our food came out in practically no time flat and I got to peek at the expansive kitchen which was clean, impressively stock with heavy duty kitchen equipment and a prep station piled high with meats. I normally like pancakes and sausage and the usual jazz but pictures of the Godzilla omelette beckoned and I was not disappointed with the meats, the sausage gravy or the thick fragrant rye. Everything was good and best of all, my coffee cup never dipped below halfway. There was old Sinatra mixed in with contemporary music to listen to, great artwork on the ceiling portraying Atlanta and a cool old time vibe to the place. It's not your typical diner and that's what makes it stand out a little from the rest.
This place is a great stop if you're on your way from or going to the airport! The bf and I knew it existed, and had visited the state farmers market before, but didn't get a chance to eat there until today. We're so glad we did! The service upon arrival was rushed and lackluster but got better throughout the meal. The setting was nice. The interior was clean and bright. There's an adorable little garden with picnic tables right outside the cafe. We got a meat+ 3 veggies plate (chicken livers, cucumber tomato onion salad, fresh fruit salad, sweet potato souffle) and the fresh garden omelette with rye bread and a side of hashbrowns with mushrooms. The meat+3 plate was awesome!! I was so impressed with the chicken livers. They were creamy and well fried with KFC- like batter. The sweet potato souffle was actually sweet potato-pecan pie w/o the crust- so delish! The cucumber tomato onion salad had a light sweet dressing and the veggies tasted so fresh and flavorful. The fresh garden omelette was so big and almost more veggies than egg! The spinach and tomatoes were perfectly cooked-still green ! The hasbrowns were haystack style and weren't overy watery. Some parts were crunchy, which is just how I like them. Multiple waiters/employees came by to ask how we were enjoying the food and if we needed our water refilled, so that made up for the lackluster greeting. Overall a wonderful experience. We will be back!

The service took WWWAAAYYYY TOOOO LONG for a Business lunch and it was after the rush! Really small portions. Veggie plate was just ok - over-seasoned the greens, mediocre cornbread, wont be back, sorry.
I wanted to like this place, and perhaps I should give it another chance. However, my 1st and only visit (which was due to there not being anything except a subway nearby during break from a training class ), I was sorely disappointed and left with a tummy ache. I could've eaten better-& cheaper- @ a Cracker Barrel. I ordered the meat and 2 sides deal -smoked pork loin with baked sweet potato and fried green tomatoes. The pork was dry and lacked any flavor except the sweet potato juice I spilled on plate when unwrapping it. The fried green tomato batter was good, but they served the END PIECES OF THE TOMATO with my serving. The redeemer was the sweet tater and sugar laden cinnamon butter they provide. Then again, how can u screw up a baked tater? I never got a tea refill to top off the lackluster visit. Also, the table was coated with a sticky residue that looked years in the making. My take away? I'll pack my lunch or hit Subway next class day!!!!

We had a very good experience at the Oakwood Cafe. Our server was fabulous and the managers were quite friendly. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! The fried pork chops were incredible! The greens were fabulous! And the sweet tea was very good. Nice atmosphere, wonderful people, and good friend - the perfect combination!!

We just finished eating here and I am so fat and happy! Seriously great food and great service. Veggies were great, pot roast was great, tilapia with Cajun seasoning was amazing. Got our food very quickly as well!

I enjoyed myself here this morning. The food was on point and very good. It is a healthy serving for the price you pay. The food is cooked with love because clearly it's enjoyable. The waitress, Brandy was attentive and nice. I can see myself going here often for breakfast. I will try their lunch and do an update on lunch.

We started our Christmas vacation here. Guided by the directional navigation on my Yelp app, we arrived @ the crack of dawn. Creepy dim streetlights & fog created an eerie glow and we completely missed the building! It's located on the grounds of the massive State Farmer's Market. Oakwood Cafe is easy to miss in the darkness of winter mornings IF you are focused on the directional signs that say "restaurant this way". The building is not very well lit. We felt like total dorks when the signs led us all the way to the rear past hundreds of fruit and vegetable vendors setting up their displays... only to discover it was actually the very first building we passed when entering into this business district. Can you say duhhhh! ------------ - - - - - THE DETAILS Date & Time: Thursday, December 20th, 2012 @ 6:15am Dining Companions: wife & kids What to expect: Unusual setting for a restaurant Server: Ciera S Liquid: water Ordered: Godzilla omelette ($6.99), French toast ($5.25), hashbrowns w/onions ($2.24), grits ($1.05), white toast ($1.10), Canadian bacon ($2.19), hashbrowns ($1.99) Dislikes: Pretty much everything Absolutely Loved: Nothing Total: $22.27 ------------ - - - - - THE FOOD There's no real way to sugarcoat this experience, so let me just get right to it. * Godzilla Omelette (2.5/5) - By it's description, this omelette should have been a meat lovers foodgasm at first bite. Bacon, ham, sausage, onions and pepper sauteed and mixed into a fluffy egg and smothered with sausage gravy! Sadly, nothing about this omelette was orgasmic. If anything, it took a perfectly good food boner and made it go limp. If this dish were a date, I'd tell her to loose my number and please don't call me again. * Pancakes (2/5) - I don't get it. Probably one of the worst pancakes I've ever had. * Hash browns (1/5) - GREASY, GREASY, GREASY! I don't mind oily foods and these were too much for even me!!! * Grits (3.5/5) - Bordering on too much salt. * Canadian Bacon (4/5) - Hard to mess this up :-) * French Toast (3.5/5) - Could have been a little sweeter Overall food rating - 2.79 THE SERVICE No one to greet us, so we stood at the check-out counter waiting to be seated when a young girl emerged into view playfully giving the chef 'the finger' and laughing. It was only after another employee pointed to the front that she noticed we were standing there waiting. Of the five employees we counted (chef, 2 servers, and two cashiers) only the chef was noticeably friendly, calling out greetings from the kitchen. Our server was clearly not much of a morning person and kinda robotic. She was pleasant to talk to, but just seemed like something else was on her mind. The other server was scary. No smile, very stern face, but moved like lightening. Clearly she was more task oriented than people oriented or maybe she was partially annoyed that I walked around this gigantic airport hangar sized dining room taking pics of the artwork on the walls and ceiling. But it wasn't like I was in her way, there were barely any customers. There was a group of about 8 guys when we first walked in and a solo diner or two, but that was about it. This place could probably seat about 350 people or more. Either way, for an energetic morning person like myself, the mood here was a real downer! Several tables didn't seem clean to me, including the one they initially sat us at which visibly had not been wiped as evident by the cup stains. The second table had crumbs in the seat, but at this point I'm just wanting to eat and get the heck out of here. So I brushed them off and sat down. The food arrived quickly, but once the meal was over and we walked over to the register to pay our bill. The check-out girl (different from the first) was also grumpy-looking and we are now thinking to ourselves "is this a restaurant or a funeral home cafeteria?" Clearly this a place where personalities come to die! THE VERDICT If it is not obvious by now then you didn't read any of my review... LOL! Won't be coming back here, at least not for breakfast. Even if the service had been friendlier, the food was just "meh". All things taken into consideration... 2.5 stars is all I can give this place. Yelp100 [4]

I had dropped a friend off at the airport very early in the morning at 6:30 am. So my tummy was telling me it's time for breakfast. Feed me or I'll scream louder, said my tummy. You all know what that means. Every time I go to the Oakwood Cafe, I leave impressed. The breakfast eggs are always just right. I had Under The Ocean Omelette with crabmeat and melted parmesan cheese. It came with your choice of toast. I went for the sour dough. A bowl of hollandaise sauce came with my omelette. Simply terrific! My hubby had The Godzilla Omelette with bacon, ham and sausage. His came with a bowl of gravy and a bowl of grits. He also had the sour dough toast. Coffee was always fresh and the waitress was always on the ball. Our meal was at $6.99 each and the total came under $20 with tips added. Terrific staff overall with great people in the kitchen. All pros. My only gripe is that I can't come here everyday since I do not live close enough to this Southern gem cafe. So I have to console myself by coming here anytime I am close to the airport. Its always great!! Keep up the good work, Oakwood Cafe! When I am at Dalton, GA, I visit the sister cafe, also called Oakwood Cafe. It just makes your day wonderful when you have a satisfying breakfast like this. Please read my previous review on lunch if you like. Oh, I also posted pictures for you to make your mouth water and drool. LoL. Yelp 24/365

Okay, so the first couple of times I tried this place I was on a paleo diet kick and this place really hit the spot. I'm a fiend for chop steak with onions and since I was a little kid and their version is spot on. They also had really delicious collard greens on both our first and second visit. Went there to begin with after seeing that Get Delicious episode and they really plug this place. On our third visit, however, the food just wasn't up to par - chop steak was WAY too greasy and veggies did not taste fresh. I was absolutely shocked at the register $30 (including tip) for lunch! Outrageous for a simple meat and two/cafeteria style restaurant. I have to admit I was miffed to begin with due to the poor service we got from our waitress. Our server was an older lady that completely abandoned us and other staff had to cover for her, like taking our order, bringing our food and getting us our check. This sometimes happens anywhere, but I was a bit aggravated by having to go find someone on crutches to bring us our bill after we sat there for well over 10 mins after we had clearly finished eating. The restaurant was empty so it's kind of a mystery as to our waitress's whereabouts. Anyway, way too expensive - like theme park, tourist-trap expensive, for no real reason. If you're looking for a good meat and two or three in this area, skip the Oakwood and go to the BBQ Kitchen on Virginia Ave instead.

I drove past every eating establishment on Hwy. 85...nothing struck my fancy. This is one of those "duh, I didn't think of it" places I've been meaning to try, especially after the BF recommended it. Holy Moly, I could be here for DAYS, eat something different each time, and still not make a dent in the vast menu. Known for great deals on meat-and-three's, the selections here are seemingly endless. Daily offerings rotate, especially the meats, but there are plenty to choose from. All the usual suspects are there-meatloaf, fried chicken, pot roast, and every Southern comfort food imaginable. They're all cooked fresh and in-house, since, HELLO, this is a Farmer's Market. Geez, fried okra and green tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and one of the few squash casseroles I can tolerate? With a side of real mashed, and oven-hot corn muffins? And they have chicken livers...oooweee! I didn't even get to the rest of the menu...a long list of sandwiches, with fresh-cut fries...an entire bbq section, and, gasp, a full breakfast menu! I'm adding this stop to my list.

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for this place. This is a really experiential kind of lunch place that I could see being quite a hit on Yelp. For one, the crowd here is classic. Located at the Georgia Farmer's Market, you are eating lunch in this giant cafeteria with the most diverse people ever (for Georgia). There are farmers everywhere, along with all sorts of other people. The food is also good. It is southern, which isn't like, my forte, but there is a wide variety, and it is a pretty good deal. This is a great place to get lunch while checking out the Georgia Farmer's Market, which should be a huge Yelp hit. Major off the radar alert. Check this one out. It needs more reviews.

Have been to the farmers market hundreds of times but never stopped by this place. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. This place has some of the freshest tasting food I have had in a while. All the vegetables are very succulent. Meat items seem generously porportioned. I think I saw a little girl with a whole fried chicken on her plate...no lie, and I heard that was just the chicken tenders. I had sweet pototoe pancakes with grits and was good for the rest of the day. They have fresh fish and shrimp, mac and cheese etc. This place is spacious, airy and has an old historic atlanta charm. The wait staff is very prompt and non-harrassing...they kinda tag-team...one drop off the check the other pick it up..etc. efficient and good eats!

Comfort food HEAVEN!! Whenever we're at the farmer's market before noon, we have got to stop here for some of the best country breakfast you can buy (my aunt in south Georgia has THE best). We've had waiters that are all over us attentive, but also waiters that don't seem to give a shit. However, we're never in a hurry. The food is cheap and the pancakes melt in your mouth. For lunch or dinner, the menu changes day to day. Any day is good, except Sunday when they're closed.

I've been to several southern food places in Atlanta, including Maritza's and Frank's, Colonnade, Mary Mac's, Gladys Knights, South City Kitchen, etc. This is probably one of the better places in the Atlanta area to get southern food. I would actually give it 4.5 stars, half a star greater than Colonnade. I've tried a little bit of everything here: chicken tenders, chicken and dumplings, turkey and dressing, pot roast, grilled tilapia, and sides. Chicken and dumplings is probably one of my favorites and it's served on Thursdays. They have different specials everyday of the week. All of the sides are very yummy and it doesn't taste like it was once canned or frozen. I believe they get everything fresh from the farmers market. Yum! Also, I've never tried their banana pudding, but it looks amazing. If you love good southern food, it's definitely worth the trip down to Forest Park to try Oakwood Cafe. I'm not sure of their hours, but they have a lunch special everyday where you get a meat, two sides, and a drink for around $7. Your belly will leave full and satisfied.

This restaurant is great for meat and vegetables. There are daily specials for vegetables. Everything was fresh just like it came from the farmer's market. Rolls were just like my grandma made and cornbread was delicious. We ate there on a late sat afternoon so it wasn't very busy. There is plenty of seating for big crowds. We had lots of food leftover.

Went in Saturday for lunch. Been going here since Thomas retired and left. Ordered 4 veggies. All were the veggies of the day. Got to say I was disappointed. Fried green tomatoes greasy - old grease used - unforgivable in my book. Cabbage not cooked properly - too crisp - not done. Cornbread soggy. Tea was sweet, though. I marked this one off my list. Going back to Ann and Bill's next time.

4 stars for what it is. Do not let sketchy location or appearance deter you. This is awesome home cooked southern food at its best. Prices were cheap and quantity was abubdant. I had the cube steak, fried green tomatoes, and Crowder peas. Would definitely recommend

Went to Oakwood Cafe for an office outing. They easily accommodated a group of 15 in their restaurant for lunch and quickly served up numerous plates of different entrees. Great place for a decent lunch plate. Go here if you're hungry for some really good mom & pop fixins!! LOL!
Amazing service, amazing food and such a great place in general. Never had a bad meal here!!

Ate here for lunch today before a business meeting, and I was pleasantly surprised. Once I finally found the place, it kind of reminded me of a bigger OK Cafe like place in Atlanta. We had a pretty large table in the back and had prompt service. I ordered a meat and three plate for lunch and was very satisfied. I ordered the chicken and dumplings, fried green tomatoes, Mac and cheese, and cucumber tomato onion salad. My only complaint here would be that the chicken and dumplings should have been a larger portion. They were about as close to my grandmother's chicken and dumplings that I've ever had! Delicious! All of my sides were equally as good. All the way down the table, people had nothing but great things to say about their food. Many people ordered the chicken salad and said that it was also delicious. I'm not in this area of town frequently, but I'd definitely go back if I ever am!

I eat there about once or twice a month and It's consistently good, I agree with another member's comment in that there are several Meat and threes surrounding the airport, (most in College Park and Hapeville), and this is probably the best, for the food is simply more wholesome. Some things, and some days, are better than others, but in general it's a good very value for your money. I do recommend coming before 11:30 or after 1PM, for they do get bogged down at times during the lunch crunch and ask to be seated in the front, for they tend to put the lesser servers in the back.

Ever since it was featured on the GPB show, "Get Delicious," The Oakwood Cafe has been on my radar. The Oakwood Cafe piqued my interest primarily because it seems to be a true farm-to-table restaurant given that it's located inside of the State Farmers Market and because over 90% of their ingredients are reportedly purchased directly from State Farmers Market vendors. Enter the State Farmers Market, follow the arrows pointing to "restaurant," and you'll find a family restaurant that's surprisingly more aesthetically pleasing than the surrounding stacks of food crates and pallets would suggest, the grand mural on the arched ceiling being most notably impressive. I sauntered in with high hopes, and The Oakwood Cafe mostly met or exceeded my expectations. First off, customers are treated with endless complimentary cornbread & yeast rolls. HOLY CRAP, THEIR CORNBREAD IS EXCELLENT! I could have gorged myself with the cornbread alone; it's that good! My friend lauded the cornbread as the best that he's ever eaten, and he asserted the same regarding his double portion of fried pork chops. I ordered the fried catfish, and though I envisioned a whole fried catfish rather than fillets, I thought, "Eh, it's a trade-off of taste/presentation for the convenience of not having to pick out tiny fish bones." Next time, because they're labeled as "specialty items," I'll try the baby back ribs, pot roast, or barbecue pork. Now, onto the game of good news/bad news. The good news: drinks are FREE during lunch hours! Given that the prices are already inexpensive, that generous policy is, as the kids would say, "amaze-balls!" The bad news: beginning 6/20/12, The Oakwood Cafe will no longer be open for dinner. But hey, The Oakwood Cafe's limited hours from 6:00 or 7:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. are still a fairly wide window of operation. Furthermore, most of their patrons are likely the truck drivers that deliver produce into the State Farmers Market, so management probably wants to focus on that customer base. Finally, not only is the practice of buying over 90% of their ingredients directly from State Farmers Market vendors inherently "green," The Oakwood Cafe is also a member of the Green Restaurant Association, and I applaud The Oakwood Cafe's management for utilizing to-go containers and cups that are plant- and paper-based rather than plastic or Styrofoam. Moreover, I noticed that the servers don't take orders with pen and paper, but rather with a stylus and small touch screen device. Nice!

I can't believe I had to add this place! This is probably some of the best southern food I have ever had. First off, it is located up front at the State Farmers Market in Forest Park. It is open from 6am-9pm Monday through Saturday. I have only been here on Saturdays for lunch. You can eat, then poke around the Farmer's market for your produce. This awesome southern food is served up in a variety of ways. I like the meat and 3 personally. And with about 10-12 meats and 10-12 veggies every day, how can you not find something you like? I had the meat and three - bbq pork, mac and cheese, corn casserole and slaw. All were excellent, as was the banana pudding at the end. My girlfriend had the four veggie plate and appeared incredibly pleased as well. Great sweet tea too! The service rocks - everyone is so nice. The ambience is very cool too, some very cool paintings of Atlanta/Georgia scenes. I am a huge fan of this place and go back often. Prices are incredibly reasonable too. Meat and three ran me $8.35.

Hi I have been eating here for a while now and always go for the cube steak. I tried the Turkey and dressing Friday and it was great. My friends wife Tina painted the ceiling so check that out when you visit. Enjoy the food and the visit bring in your AAA card for 10 % discount.

Among the best Southern Comfort foods to be had, anywhere. Meals are wholesome, prepared fresh, and cooked to Southern perfection. The "meat & three" menu changes day by day. (The menu is scheduled.) You can always get killer barbecue here. Breakfast starts at 6am, and always includes a variety of specials. My delicious breakfast burrito (chock full of eggs, hash-brown potatoes, onions, cheese...) was almost as big as both my fists. And let me tell you, I wear mighty big gloves. Did I mention Oakwood Cafe is cheap? It's cheap! Service is friendly and fast. The wireless ordering system means fewer errors and facilitates the serving of large parties. Located "inside" the State Farmer's Market, The Oakwood Cafe is a secret that really needs to be shared with everyone.

Not a bad little hidden gem in the land of fast food. I had a friend green tomato BLT and a sweet potato - sooo good! This place is fantastic in every way. Parking is a pain in the ass though, so go before or after the lunch rush.

I work in the Market and a couple of us came here for a quick lunch. It's one of few sit down places in the area so it was swamped for lunch which I hear is the norm. The wait wasn't bad at all though and we got a table fast. I had pretty low expectations of a meal at a place surrounded by huge warehouses at the States Farmers Market. I was pleasantly surprised to find the food pretty good. I will say I only had a sandwich and didn't dive into the Southerness that they specialize in. I'm sure I'll be back though given the proximity to my job and an update will be necessary.

After missing out on the in-town farmer's markets one recent Saturday, we headed to the State Farmer's market in Forest Park. I was looking forward to a healthy lunch with fresh, seasonal vegetables at the Farmer's Market café before perusing the stalls for fresh produce. The café had a new name, Oakwood Café, obviously under new ownership since I'd last visited. I'd like to say it was as good as ever, but the food fell short. Each day offers a selection of eleven meats that run the gamut from pot roast, fried pork chops, grilled tilapia, hamburger steak, bbq and chicken prepared 3 or 4 different ways. Vegetables are equally varied with at least fifteen different choices. Unfortunately, with so many options, quality is sacrificed. What should be a showcase of fresh food is a combination of processed food that gets overcooked. My cubed steak, breaded and fried, was tough with gravy that was slightly burned, fruit salad way past its prime and generally, everything suffered from being prepared much earlier and held too long on a steam table. The Oakwood Café is not as good as in-town meat and threes and definitely not worth a special trip.

Oakwood Café is a solid "Meat and Three" kind of place. Service was friendly and the food is fairly good. Details: 1. Pulled pork - good. I'm not sure how the pork would stand without the sauce (it's pre-sauced), but the sauce is good. 2. Ribs - Good, but not great. Certainly worthwhile if you're in the mood for ribs. 3. Baked/Smoked Chicken - I'm really confused about how this chicken was prepared. It look baked, but tasted like it had some smoke in it. It definitely didn't look like any smoked chicken I've otherwise had, though. Anyhow, the flavor was decent, but it was way over-cooked and extremely dry. 4. Mac & Cheese - Most places "Meat and Three" places disappoint me when it comes to Mac & Cheese. Not Oakwood - it's definitely a good choice. 5. Fried Green Tomotoes - didn't expect to see this as an available side, but I enjoyed them. I do wish they were served with some kind of dipping sauce, though (even ranch dressing). 6. Corn bread - meh. Not bad, Not great. It's ironic given my lack of a sweet tooth, but I do like a touch of sweetness in my corn bread (not much, just a touch) and I didn't get it here.

Oakwood Cafe...is a restaurant that is in the most obscure place. It is in this farmer's market and it kind of looks like a pit stop and has a feel of a cracker barrel. But despite the location and appearance, Oakwood café has decent food. Most of their menu offering is southern food. Chicken and Dumplings, bbq pork, pork chops, chicken livers, etc It's a meat and sides place. So their sides and meats change everyday. Their daily menu is online. I ordered a full rack of baby back ribs. Seemed like they baked it. And even for a half rack...it's a lot of meat. So a whole rack was enormous but I finished it and I enjoyed it ;) And my sides were the cucumber, tomato, onion slaw. It was fresh and crisp. And I had deviled eggs too. Not bad Oakwood. I give it 3 and half stars but Yelp doesn't do half stars so 4 stars. Come on Yelp! Get with the program with the rating system!

OMG..possibly the best southen cooking i have had in a decade,if ever. The best chicken and dumplings ever.Great collards, fried cabbage, sweet potato and absolutly to die for yeast rolls and cornbread.Must go there for breakfast some morning..every item is a la cart. Hope this place stays as good as it is now.Oh my husband had the smoked chicken and Loved it. Take visitors for true southern cooking.BTW did you know the state farmers market has a hugh nursery area and whole sale prices on plant material?

(2)Stacie R.
4 stars for what it is. Do not let sketchy location or appearance deter you. This is awesome home cooked southern food at its best. Prices were cheap and quantity was abubdant. I had the cube steak, fried green tomatoes, and Crowder peas. Would definitely recommend
(4)Joe R.
Went to Oakwood Cafe for an office outing. They easily accommodated a group of 15 in their restaurant for lunch and quickly served up numerous plates of different entrees. Great place for a decent lunch plate. Go here if you're hungry for some really good mom & pop fixins!! LOL!

Finally had a chance to stop by after seeing this location on Get Delicious. Oakwood Café is a traditional "meat and three" with table service, also offering breakfast and sandwich options. The location is hidden away inside of the state farmers market, nestled right in the middle near row 8. The décor is clean and welcoming, the staff friendly. Yeast rolls and corn bread are offered, though you have to ask for refills of the basket. The yeast roll was well made with a perfect "chew" and the corn bread was moist, requiring no butter. The lack of a butter requirement was good as they only offer whipped spread, real butter is nonexistent. The whipped spread features trans-fat in the form of partially hydrogenated oils. While no expectation can be made of health in a country meat and three, real butter should be offered. I had the fried pork chop with northern beans and mashed potatoes. The pork chops were slightly dry but fit well with the mashed potatoes and gravy. The northern beans tasted like beans straight from the can, no additional flavoring. My wife had the fried chicken tenders with onion rings and baked beans. The chicken was crunchy and moist. The baked beans offered fantastic flavor but the onion rings were a letdown. A more apt title would be Greasy Onion Strings. The banana pudding, which I had high hopes for, was a letdown. It tasted artificial and the whip cream out of a can/tub. Overall I feel it is probably not worth the drive versus other local "meat and three" locations around the south side. I will probably stop by again at some point to give it another try despite its initial misgivings.

(4)Larry C.

(4)Caitlin B.
Not a bad little hidden gem in the land of fast food. I had a friend green tomato BLT and a sweet potato - sooo good! This place is fantastic in every way. Parking is a pain in the ass though, so go before or after the lunch rush.
(4)Donna A.
Have been here 3 times now while in Atlanta. The food is always good and the service is as well. I would recommend anytime.
(4)Paul S.
